Discussion President Darla Hamlin called meeting to order 7:05 am, introducing NY Fire Chief Greg Payson, who provided a summary of his work history and then gave a review of the Fire Departments 2015.   Major points were:

  • New Ambulance to arrive on or about December 16th.
  • New smoke and CO detector inspection program.  This is a FREE program offered to the public.  A member of the Fire Department will come to your home or place of business (within North Yarmouth) and inspect your detectors.  The chief noted that smoke detectors are generally only good for ten years, so if yours is older, highly recommend you contact the Chief and schedule your inspection  today.
  •  NY Fire Department awarded Gold Status in 2015.   The Chief expects this enhanced rating to decrease insurance rates.
  • CPR-AED classes.   The Chief reported that three people’s lives were saved in 2015 because CPR was administered at the first sign of distress.  Chief is holding two classes, co-hosted by NYBA.   The first is January 16th 8:00 am to noon, and the same time on January 30th.  Space is limited to six per class.   Five of the slots for January 16th class were taken by attending members.  Darla will post invitation to all membership.  Because we are co-hosting this event, members receive a 50% discount. Members pay $25 each, non member price is $50.  Members will be given first opportunity to sign up.

Darla thanks Chief Payson for attending and invited him to speak at our December 2016 business meeting, which he accepted.

Special thanks to Liz Langham who recommended the CPR course.

Old business –   Website.    Darla needed authorization to pay for the renewal of the web hosting contract.  There were not enough members present to make a quorum.  Vote moved to next meeting.

New business –  Tradeshow.    Darla reported that the gym at NYMS is reserved for the third annual exhibit and tradeshow.  Currently holding Friday March 4th.     To start, we need volunteers to organize the event including solicitation of sponsors, procuring someone to serve beer and wine ( assuming that is part of the plan ) determining space sizes and fees, who can participate, etc.   Please contact Darla Hamlin by email if you are willing to volunteer for this committee.   No prior experience required.

Bylaws review  –  Darla recommended a review of our current bylaws.  Turner Hansel volunteered to take on this project.  Turner Hansel and Thad Day were nominated and voted on for this assignment.    Darla pointed to specific sections that might warrant change … they are ….    Article III, Section 5 … consider decreasing quorum to five (5) from seven (7).      Article VII, Section 1 … consider language change to specify a timeframe in which to hold annual meeting.  Article VIII, Section 1 … She recommended we consider adding the NY Memorial Park Corp as a non profit to receive funds from NYBA should the association dissolve.

RECAP – EDSC Meeting / NYBA Accomplishments and Future Goals – Darla reported that she attended the EDSC meeting on December 9th at which time she reviewed the Assocations accomplishments year to date, and provided a list of her goals for the next six months.  The consensus was that we could find ways to support our mutual goals.    Learn  more ……
