Meeting called to order:

Presentation Mark Verrill, owner of Shapely Solutions in No. Yarmouth, offered a wealth of information about healthy lifestyles and tips on how everyone can improve their overall health. In business since 2004, Mark has been a personal trainer for more than twenty years.  Some of the facts he cited…

. hydration benchmark, 1/2 your body weight in pounds equals #of ounces of water to consume daily.  Water cleanses and cools the body, aids in joint health and carries nutrients throughout the body.

.health eating is  LIFEstyle, temporary diets don’t work.  One should develop an overall healthy eating plan, NOT over-looking breakfast as that “starts your engine” each day.  Watching caloric intake important, including liquid calories.

.healthy eating includes five servings daily of fruits and vegetables, as that increases fiber intake.

.portion control, less processed foods, and eating smaller meals throughout the day aids in weight control.

.the American College of Sports Medicine suggsts a minimum exercise goal for adults is three to five days per week, for twenty to sixty minutes each time.  Exercise should be consistent and not sporadic to be effective.  Men and women should invest time in weight training in addition to cardio exercise, to maximize muscle mass.  This also helps women prevent osteoporosis, and provides stress relief.  NO EXCUSES! Just do it.

Mark has a full gym facility in his home and offers one on one training, or has discounted rates for friends or couples who wish to train together.  Mark expressed an interest in becoming an NYBA member.

Discussion After introduction of members…..

Dale Burnell and Thad Day reported their businesses are enjoying a steady pace.

Margie Hansel advised they had a bumper crop of apples this year but the season was “iffy” as far as customers, much of that weather related as they are a pick your own orchard.

Michael Babin’s carpentry business is seeing a normal seasonal downturn, but he remains busy with the property management operations.

Janice Selig’s Real Estate office moved to it’s new Freeport location and they held their open house on the evening of 11/10/11.  Located on Route One, S. Freeport.

Rob Taisey discussed a downward trend in system prices for solar heating, which when combined with government rebate  / tax programs can now almost be cash flow neutral for homeowners.  Rob advised he can provide individuals with cost savings estimates at the December meeting when he is scheduled to speak, if you email  your Central Maine Power statement to him for analysis ahead of time.

Visitor Bill Ambrose from North Yarmouth introduced his “antique chair” restoration business located near Stone’s Cafe.  Bill has many years of experience in chair restoration, doing caning, rushing, and shaker type work. Bill also expressed an interest in NYBA membership.

Andy Walsh reported his business is slightly up from prior year.

For the present time NYBA social will remain third Thursday of month, next to be held November 17, 2011.  Mention was made of prior discussion, possibly changing social hour to fourth Thursday of each month, further discussion on this to be held at next meeting.

Further discussion addressed the vote at last meeting to amend the bylaws to allow people who LIVE in North Yarmouth but whose businesses are located outside the Town to join.  At least one inquiry has come in via the website from such a potential new member since the vote.  Current discussion again addressed whether such members should be Board eligible, this topic was tabled until the next meeting.  Updated section of bylaws showing amended wording attached.

Reports Andy Walsh reported no change to balance in our account, which remains at $1048.57.

Two new membership applications were taken by Mark Verrill and Bill Ambrose at the meeting, a third inquiry by Darla Hamlin via website was forwarded to Thad by Tina Burnell.  Marilyn will email an application to Darla, who is slated to be our January 2012 speaker.

Meeting adjourned at 8:03 AM — Next meeting will be held December 8, 2011

Respectfully Submitted: Marilyn Matthews, Secretary
