Discussion At 7:35 President Darla Hamlin introduced guest Alex Carr, No. Yarmouth Selectman.  Alex, who resides on Henry Road, is a Maine Native.  He has a naval background and also worked in his family’s business.  Alex outlined his goals as a Selectman.   He served as liaison for the BOS on theTown budget, Communications, Branding, and Parks and Rec committees. He welcomes NYBA input as to how the Town can assist local business.  He advised the budget process has been difficult this year, and that the voting turnout was poor at only 12%.  The branding project is ready to go live and local businesses can apply for use.  He promotes the community for recreational use ie: hiking, riding, fishing, as a way to draw visitors.  The goal being to make the visitors stay and patronize local business.  The Town is working with local residents to be sure trails will stay open for riding, hiking, snowmobiles, etc even if some people decide to develop their land.  Alex favors the Knights Pond purchase and is confident it will happen.  The review of Westcustogo Grange project is stalled, with focus on its historical significance and what is best for the Town.  Alex also favors senior housing development to keep residents here.  To see such development zoning and ordinance changes are needed.  The Comprehensive Plan needs to be updated.  Alex also feels government transparency is essential and should be improved.  While Alex learned a great deal in his first year as Selectman, his goals are now clearer on the above mentioned projects.  He would like to see a ten year plan that includes a bike path bringing people to Town, improvement of the fire station facility, sidewalks, a public playground or park, new ambulance, and a public service campaign to draw interest in what No. Yarmouth has to offer.  The challenge is to interrupt the “drive through” atmosphere of North Yarmouth.  Any input can be sent to Alex at  acarr@northyarmouth.org.

Motion made and seconded to approve minutes of 5/14/15.

Darla Hamlin asked for ideas on how to improve member benefits to NYBA in order to attract new members.  Business of the month was Michael Babin, MS Babin Carpentry.  Darla also asked members to bring guests to next meeting.

Next business meeting July 9, 2015.
